Meet our Publisher...

It was while enjoying a ski trip in Kimberly, B.C. that I came across The Country Register of British Columbia. I’d stopped into a hotel to make a call, when I spied a copy sitting on the counter. The coloured logo adorned with geese, quilts and bears instantly caught my eye. I was thrilled because I KNEW it was full of neat shops full of neat stuff. Into my bag it went and I high-tailed it over to The Snow Drift Cafe for a cuppa and a browse through it.

For a long while, I’d lamented the lack of information about interesting shopping in Alberta. While on outings to new places, I’d huddle over the telephone directory, searching for anything with quilts, crafts, Country or Victorian in the name. Other times I'd skulk down quiet main streets checking out store fronts. So, I realized the potential for this paper to consolidate information about shops and services of interest to others like me. I waffled for a few days, then called Barbara Floyd in Phoenix and the rest, as they say, is history.

It's been eleven years since that paper in the hotel caught my eye. The Country Register of Alberta published its first issue in June/July 1997. Changes have been made over the years, but we continue to seek out great shops and services, fun articles, recipes and information for our readers.

In addition to fabulous hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, paddling and sightseeing in the Canadian Rockies, there are other wonderful events and sites to draw you to Alberta. Can you say you've been to a Gopher Museum? How about experiencing a hold-up while taking a steam train ride across the prairies? The Edmonton Fringe Festival is world famous as is the huge West Edmonton Mall featuring indoor scuba diving, ferris wheels and more, as well as hundreds of stores. Don't forget the World reknowned Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, famous for the number and quality of dinosaur fossils found in the area.

The north beckons to fisherfolk, boaters, explorers and urban travellers.
Isn't it nice to know that while you are expriencing this diverse province you can find jewels along the way by using The Country Register?
