For the Canadian readers in the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, The Country Register adventure began in October of 2000. Scott and Marjorie Kearns are the editors and publishing partners. The paper is published from their home office in the rural community of Kipling (population 1144 on a good day), recently made famous by "One Red Paperclip" (more info at www.oneredpaperclip.com)

The paper is a combined edition for both provinces, mainly due to the sparse population and large geographic area of the region. Combined, the entire population of the region is about 2 million people. The geographic area is 500,000 square miles. Roughly half of that area is northern forest and lakes. Most of the population resides in the bottom half of Saskatchewan and bottom third of Manitoba.

Prior to The Country Register, Scott worked in the family business (weekly newspaper and printing) for 27 years, specializing in sales and marketing. Marj worked in retail, and later established a very successful business painting houses. Working part time in both their jobs, the couple decided to become full-time publishers of The Country Register later in 2000.
